The Holy Spirit and I (3)

“Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing.
Now we ask you, brothers and sisters, to acknowledge those who work hard among you, who care for you in the Lord and who admonish you.
Hold them in the highest regard in love because of their work. Live in peace with each other.
And we urge you, brothers and sisters, warn those who are idle and disruptive, encourage the disheartened, help the weak, be patient with everyone.
Make sure that nobody pays back wrong for wrong, but always strive to do what is good for each other and for everyone else.
Rejoice always,
pray continually,
give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.
Do not quench the Spirit.
Do not treat prophecies with contempt
but test them all; hold on to what is good,
reject every kind of evil.
May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through. May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.
The one who calls you is faithful, and he will do it.
Brothers and sisters, pray for us.
Greet all God’s people with a holy kiss.
I charge you before the Lord to have this letter read to all the brothers and sisters.
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with you.” 1 Thessalonians 5

Imagine reading this letter for the first time back in Tessalonica. We are now reading it two thousand years after them.
The apostle Paul gives the church of Tessalonica some recommendations and we are focusing on the one related to the Holy Spirit.

We need to know who the Holy Spirit is and evaluate our relationship with Him. I know God is my Father. Jesus, as the Son of God, is my brother. And the Holy Spirit? He is my Friend.
Because the Holy Spirit is a person I should relate to Him. And God through Him accomplishes His projects in us.

Do you want the anointing of the Spirit? Do I want people to be saved? I do not need primarily the anointing, but first and most of all I need His presence.

He is the one who flows through me.
That is why I cannot have a formal relationship with Him. It cannot be a superficial relationship. It has to be a close relation. Some people do not have a deep relationship with the Holy Spirit and they will end up alone, like people who do not have friends.
It is God’s desire for us and the Holy Spirit to be close friends. He wants to carry out His restoring work through Him.
There are areas in our lives we want to forget! So when you have a deep relationship with Him those are the areas He will touch.
Why don’t people want to have a close relationship with Him? Because they do not want to be confronted or changed!

The apostle Paul says in this Scripture:
“Do not quench the Spirit.”
Do not destroy your relationship with the Holy Spirit.
Do not leave the Spirit out of your life.
Be zealous as you seek Him.
Quenching means to asphyxiate. Do not do that with Him.
Do not leave Him behind, aside or apart.
Do not reject Him in your decisions. Your mind has to be subjected to Him, not the other way round.
The Holy Spirit takes into account what we say, what we sing and
He responds to us despite the fact that man has been resisting to His voice.
There are people who have been rejecting God for so long, their ears are so hardened, that the Holy Spirit leaves the person behind. It is up to you!
The Holy Spirit talks about a healthy sexual life! If someone decides that He or she does not want to follow His orientation, He lets the person do what they want.

We are guided by Him. We live by Him! We should walk along the path He opens for us. So I have to be obedient to His Voice, God’s voice in me.
His guidance can be applied in all areas of our lives: in the family, marriage, ministry in the church.
However, some people have been resistant to the Holy Spirit.
Remember Samson. He continually resisted to the Holy Spirit in such a way that He left him.
Nobody is innocent before The Lord.
Do not resist to the voice of the Holy Spirit. Do not say that you have not heard His voice. It is a lie. Do not consider yourself innocent or ignorant. Do not say you have not heard it. Leave your preconceptions behind. Do not quench the Spirit. Relate to Him. Seek Him. Obey Him.

God does not need our prayer to do His work. He is not limited by our prayers. He can do whatever He wants whether we pray or not.
God does not depend on our prayers.
So why do we pray? Because God wants us to be part of the great things He is doing or is about to do.
Prayer makes us part of God’s projects.
Through prayer I get to know God better.
It is enriching to be used by God as a tool for His Glory. I am a clay pot where God’s treasure is.
That is the vision I have to have about the kingdom of God.
The Holy Spirit comes to manifest God’s perfect will.
Remember that a clay pot is fragile, however the design it has depends on God. He is the one who moulds it. Be moulded by God!

We live terrible days, days on which there is a lot of deceit. We know what sin is. We know that prostitution, adultery and homosexuality are sin before The Lord. What we need now is discernment. I have to know what comes from God and what comes from the devil.
When we resist to the Holy Spirit we annihilate His direction in my life.
When I decide to obey The Holy Spirit God makes me a balanced person.
When I do not allow the Holy Spirit to work in my life I become bitter. I may say sweet words, but I can be like and an orange that is sweet at the beginning and then it becomes bitter in the end.
I want to be used by God, but I do not want to have bitterness in my words or heart.
The Holy Spirit wants us to reject all forms of bitterness in our lives.
Some people are faithful partners of their own wounds.
Allow the Holy Spirit to heal your wounds. Let your heart be healed. Let the Holy Spirit heal you. Do not become an unhappy person.
Do not pat your self compassion.
Do not allow your mood to interfere with the work of the Holy Spirit in your life.
God did not call you to be dissatisfied.
God did not send an animal or a light or a tree or a power to save you. He sent His own Son.
Now He sends His Spirit to heal our resentments.
Let Him do it.

The apostle Paul goes on talking about the relationship with the Holy Spirit in the letter to the Ephesians:
“Therefore each of you must put off falsehood and speak truthfully to your neighbor, for we are all members of one body.
“In your anger do not sin”: Do not let the sun go down while you are still angry,
and do not give the devil a foothold.
Anyone who has been stealing must steal no longer, but must work, doing something useful with their own hands, that they may have something to share with those in need.
Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but only what is helpful for building others up according to their needs, that it may benefit those who listen.
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption.
Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice.
Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as in Christ God forgave you.” (Ephesians 4:25-32)

When do we grieve the Holy Spirit? When we have joy in the wrong things.
A married man finds himself a lover. Everything starts in the mind, in the computer, in the thoughts.
We cannot have pleasure in the things that offend the Holy Spirit.
Our pleasure is God’s Law.
Be careful with the impure things!
Do not go back to the wrong thoughts.
Do not contaminate your life with little things. Hardly ever do we trip over a big stone. It usually happens with the small ones. Be careful.
God has been sowing pure things.
Remember we have been bought at a price.
Men have sold Jesus for 30 silver coins.
Jesus bought us with His blood so we were set free. The highest price!
The most important reason I live is to manifest His Love.
What is my professional motivation? To manifest His Love.
What is my family motivation? To manifest His Love.
We are just clay. However, it is the Holy Spirit of God who loves in me.

Do not grieve the Holy Spirit. Obey His Voice!

Prayer: Lord, forgive us for resisting your Spirit. Forgive us for not doing what you expect us to do. Forgive us Holy Spirit for wanting to walk our own way, for making decisions without asking you. Forgive us, Lord. What I desire is to be a clay vessel in your hands. I want to have an obedient heart, one that is willing to obey.”

We are not well. We have to be treated by the Holy Spirit. It is not well with our souls. Let His Spirit touch your life!
Do not be tormented by your past. It will not come back to you. Not even to your children. The Lord is working it out. He is not going to allow it to happen. I have been doing too much. Take it over, Lord. Do the work.

May God bless you richl
